Lounging By The Sheep Gate by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 30, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

Lounging By The Sheep Gate by Keith Cook

³After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, waiting for the moving of the waters; for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted.² John 5: 1-4 (NASB)

Jesus was on His way to a festival and passed by the Sheep Gate. He looked over at the Pool of Bethesda. It must have looked beautiful with its five massive porches spread out all around it. However, the scene was marred with masses of people who were crowded around the pool looking down at the water.

Down through the years many people had been healed at that pool when the waters were stirred. Many said the waters were stirred by an angel and when the angel stirred the waters, the first one in the pool would be healed.

Today - in our world - society lounges at the Sheep Gate.

1. They are there with massive needs. Yet they eat - drink - and play!

2. Most do not have enough discernment to know they have needs. They ridicule anyone who speaks up and talks about sin, morals, standards, or reality.

3. Many do not have a clue where to look when they do realize they have a problem. They look to presidents, politicians, social programs, trendy magazine writers, talk show hosts, and movie stars for direction and answers.

That day there were many around the pool: The Sick who were ailing, diseased, weak and void of strength. The Blind with no vision or clouded vision. The Crippled who were lame. Those who were Paralyzed.

Today we too have many who are sick. Those with tremendous PHYSICAL - MENTAL - EMOTIONAL - SPIRITUAL needs all around us!

We must, as real followers of Jesus:

1. Take the time to pass by the pool.
2. Take a look at who is at the pool.
3. Go down to the pool and ask probing questions to discern where people really are in life.
4. Tell people the truth about being set free.

That¹s what Jesus did that day. He was on His way to a festival and took the time to go down to the pool - the one by the Sheep Gate. He is calling us to go to where the sheep are and tell them what the Good Shepherd has to say.

Daily Prayer Focus: Today, ask God for Divine Appointments to share with someone in need.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Keith Cook, Joan Cook, the U.S.A. Staff, and On The Go Board of Directors, as they add leadership and direction for the ongoing ministries of the Keith Cook Team and On The Go.

The Majesty of God by Joan Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 29, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

The Majesty of God by Joan Cook

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands" Psalm 19:1

Recently, Keith and I were flying home from a very successful GoTeam Project. The flying time was about 20 hours, excluding any layovers, so needless to say we were in the air a long time.

During the flight when I either couldn't sleep or wasn't watching a movie, I began to simply stare out the window at the clouds. We were flying high above the white and grey clouds and the sun was about to set. The sun's rays caused the clouds to turn to a purplish-pink color. They were beautiful!

I couldn't help but think of how awesome the God we serve is and how even the skies proclaim the work of His hands! The Bible tells us that if we don't declare the wonders and majesty of God, then the rocks will cry out! Declare His goodness and majesty today!

Personal Prayer Focus: Praise God today for His Awesome Power, Presence, and Majesty at work in your midst.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The Safety In Travel for each On The Go staffer and GoTeam volunteer.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

Let The Children Come - by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 28, 2010

Let The Children Come - by Keith Cook

"But Jesus said, 'Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me: for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.'" Matthew 19:14

Little Robey was a handsome and rowdy young man. Each day he would be the first to come to the park where we were ministering. He was a handful and our whole team almost dreaded who would have to play and keep up with him.

Every day he would be at your heel like a puppy dog, wanting attention and love. In the middle of one service, Robey asked Jesus to be his Savior. There were no thunderbolts. We could not hear the angels singing, but we were very excited for him.

One day, my wife Joan, spent some time with Robey and found out that he had been sneaking over to be with us. His father, he said, was not a Christian and would not let him come to church. He said that if his father knew where he was, he would beat him.

I got to thinking about Robey and how God had sent us to that park so He could slip little Robey into His Kingdom. We were not a big church building with pews and stained glass. Even though his dad had rejected the church, we were love and joy to Robey. We were Christ's hands and feet to spread the love of Jesus.

Robey will fight battles all his life in order to slip into Christian situations, but now he will have the Holy Spirit guiding him and comforting him. When we left Robey, we were all in tears. We must let the children come to Jesus. He cares for them. He sends us to them.

Open your eyes! Care and share!

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray for boys and girls who do not know Jesus. Pray that God will give them the opportunity to hear the Gospel message and come to know Him.

Milestones by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 27, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

Milestones by Keith Cook

"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14

Some of your life is over and now what is around the corner? Think about some of the milestones that are going to be coming up in your life. Some of them will be easy, some exciting, some will take real courage, commitment, and perseverance. You are going to need all the resources that God has given you to make it through all that is around the corner.

These are some of your resources that you have to reach your full potential:

1. Your Friends - It is great to have a best friend, mate, or group of friends to encourage you and help you be all that God wants you to be.

2. The Holy Spirit - With God working on the inside you can handle anything that happens on the outside! Allow the Holy Spirit to direct your steps into your future. He knows what is around the corner.

3. The Bible - The Word of God has many references that point to how men and women of faith reached and lived through many milestones in their lives. With such vivid and real object lessons and examples, you have a great resource in your quest for living right and succeeding in all you are to do.

4. Your Heritage - God has given you a family to help mold, steer, and support you. Even your community and culture can be used of God to help you mature and grow.

5. Your Faith - As you grow in faith you will gain confidence to trust God more and reach out in service ever greater.

At various times you will rely on each of these to different degrees. The main thing to remember is that you have a wealth of resources available to meet whatever may come. God does not abandon you on your journey through life. He is there at every milestone.

Personal Prayer Focus: "God thank you for giving us so many wonderful resources to make a difference in our world."

On The Go Prayer Focus: The Families of the On The Go staff. Pray for their emotions, finances, safety, wisdom, and spiritual health.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

Pray For Your Local Church by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 26, 2010

Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

Pray For Your Local Church by Keith Cook

"For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding," Colossians 1:9

Pray for your local church. We are never to forsake praying, attending, and supporting our local church, no matter how many other ministries we are associated with. Take a moment to pray for your church right now. Thank God for a good local church and the freedom to assemble together as believers. Thank Him for the comforts and resources you have at your church.

Here are some things to specifically pray for your church, not just today, but on a regular basis.

Prayer for your Local Church - Call out the name of your church and thank God for it. Pray for all the activities of your local church. Pray that they are consistent with God's perfect will for a church in this generation.

Pray for the Staff at your Church - Pray for all the key leaders by name or by position if you are not familiar with each person. If the Lord gives you a promise or word of encouragement for them, why not share that with them.

Pray for Families at your Church - Pray for your friends, that they will be strong and consistent in their walk for Christ.

Pray for Parents at your Church - Pray for wisdom and encouragement.

Pray for Singles and Couples at your Church - Pray for purity and holiness in the personal relationships and careers.

Pray for all the Youth at your Church - Pray for protection and for the Holy Spirit to begin to call out teens who are ready and willing to serve the Lord.

Pray for all the Children at your Church - Pray for development and protection of these young children as they grow and mature in life.

Pray for Senior Adults at your Church - Pray that they will not grow weary in doing good, and that they will not stop being role models and examples to younger generations.

Pray for a Harvest of Souls at your Church - Pray for people to come to the Lord through the ministries of your local church.

Pray against the Schemes of the Devil on your Church - The Devil wants to discredit your church and have it fall back into a lukewarm and irrelevant place in your community. Prayer is a great weapon that can be used to defeat the enemy and arm the saints. Now is the time to rise to the highest plane and pray, pray, pray.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray for your Local Church. Ask God for His Blessings upon your Church Staff, Families, Parents, Singles, Couples, Youth, Children, Senior Adults, and Outreach Events.

On The Go Prayer Focus: All the Ministry Partners, Missions, Missionaries that On The Go ministers with. It takes team work to make the dream of reaching the world a reality.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

Storms All Around Us by Laurie McTier

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 25, 2010

Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

Storms All Around Us by Laurie McTier

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." Ephesians 6:12, 13

"April showers bring May flowers." I can remember hearing this quote even as a little child. During the months of April and May, we grow accustomed to seasonal thunderstorms and showers, and often we have to take precautions.

Recently, I remember looking at the national radar map and found that all across the United States, it seemed that every state on the map had rain forecasted. In the Southern states, we had forecasted thunderstorms and possible tornadoes for the next four days. As we began to see the storms and tornadoes moving into our area, we knew that we could not play the role of the spectator. Crisis times demand action, and our response became one of prevention and livelihood.

Just as we took steps to protect ourselves during the thunderstorms and tornado warnings, we must take cover against storms that rise against us spiritually. Recently, God gave me this acronym that I hope will challenge you as you endure the storms.

Spiritual Preparation. We must spend time daily in God's Word and in prayer. This will prepare us for any storm that comes into our path.

Take Cover. Put on your Gospel armor as described in Ephesians 6. We must take an active stance against the storm by claiming truth, righteousness, God's Word, faith, and salvation.

Openly heed to warnings. The Bible reminds us that we should run from even the appearance of evil. As we take heed to thunderstorm and tornado warnings which are coming into our paths, we must also heed God's Word. The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf, and we must heed to His leadership in our lives.

Remain Calm. True peace comes directly and solely from God. In the midst of storms in our lives we can rest assured that God is aware of the storm and at work on our behalf. He is our Shield and Defender.

Mandate. Often during storms in life, we notify friends and family to alert them to dangerous weather that is coming into their path. Spiritually, we have the same responsibility. Christ has given us the Great Commission to share our faith and tell others about His love. We would not remain quiet if we knew our family were in physical danger. Is it not more important to warn them of the dangers of sin and separation from God?

Truly, we have an awesome responsibility to be prepared during the storms. God give us a sense of urgency that we may be prepared for the storms of life and the boldness that we need to share with our friends and family who are need of You.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that as you endure storms in your life you will make spiritual preparations, take cover, openly heed warnings, remain calm, and accept His mandate.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The Finances of Team as they boldly go out for Jesus Christ. Pray that all their needs will be met at home and for the projects they are working on.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

By Faith We Stand by On The Go Staff

On The Go Daily Devotion For APRIL 24, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

By Faith We Stand by On The Go Staff

Today the staff at On The Go would like to encourage you to spend some time meditating on the following verses on FAITH. We believe that faith can move mountains that seem impossible, and by faith you can serve the Lord in any capacity He has called you to serve!

"But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour." Matthew 9:22

"Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt." Matthew 15:28

"After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward." Genesis 15:1

"And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Matthew 17:20

"And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:2

"Where there is no vision, the people perish:" Proverbs 29:18

Stand in faith today! God will reward you for your faithfulness.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that God will continue to expand your
ministry as you seek to faithfully serve Him.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Middle Tennessee Outreach this week. Pray for the team as they host GoKids Clubs in inner-city Nashville. Pray as we minister to boys and girls and share with them the love of Jesus Christ, that God will bring forth a Bountiful Harvest for the Kingdom.

Lord, I See by Tekká Kelly and Laurie McTier

On The Go Daily Devotion For APRIL 23, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

Lord, I See by Tekká Kelly and Laurie McTier

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." Isaiah 41:10, 13

As Christians we can all look around us everyday and see signs of God's Presence and Power in our lives. Our God is an awesome God, and He is truly worthy to be praised. All too often; however, we fail to thank God for the blessings He has given to us. May we never take His Presence and Power for granted.

Our walk with Christ is dependent upon the time that we spend with Him each and everyday in prayer and Bible study. May God reveal His truths to us so that in return we can bless others with the lessons He has taught us. God doesn't bless us and expect us to hoard the blessings, but wants us to share them with our family and friends that God puts across our paths.

Today I want to close by leaving you with a poem written by a young girl that has grown-up under the influence of On The Go Ministries. Tekká became a Christian as a young girl during one of our Neighborhood Outreaches, and God has blessed her with a gift of writing poetry and songs.

Lord I See

Lord I see your Mighty Power
Shining through the Light Tower.
Some may say He's a Coward.
But they don't know His Marvelous Power.

From where I stand
He is the Glory in all our land.
We shall Sing and Dance
For He will Rise Again.

From the bottom of the ocean
To the top of the sky.
He's our salvation
That we see rise.

From every nation
To every grand,
To every state he will rise again.

For the Lord
We seek will rise again.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that your Christian faith never become mundane or common place. Pray God will give you renewed zeal and a renewed sense of His Presence and His Power.

On The Go Prayer Focus: Middle Tennessee Outreach April 22-24. Today they will be prayer walking in downtown Nashville. Pray for the GoTeam as they minister that they will be sensitive to needs of those around them.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

The Umpire by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 22, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

The Umpire by Keith Cook

"There is no umpire between us, who may lay his hand upon us both." Job 9:33 NASB

Recently, I went to a baseball game. Our local team was doing great! Home runs were being hit left and right. Then it happened! Our pitcher threw a wild pitch and it almost hit the batter. The batter got so mad that he started yelling at the pitcher. Then our manager became rather upset and started yelling at the batter who, by then, was being defended by his manager. It was a rather fun scene for us as spectators, but for the players on the field it was very serious and a tense
situation.

Into the middle of the situation stepped the umpire. While the coach of a team has a lot of authority and can usually rule his players, there is one person on that field who has total authority, the umpire. When he speaks everyone must listen. When he says "play ball," they all play ball. When he says "You're out of here," you take a walk to the locker room, and no matter how loud you yell and protest, there is no way to get back into the game.

When the umpire had had enough, he sent both coaches back to their dugouts, the players went back to their positions, and the game continued. The tense situation was over and the game was completed.

While Job thought there was no umpire who could mediate between God and man, there actually was, it was Jesus Christ. Jesus stepped in and brought peace between God and man, even between you and God.

In the game of life, Jesus is the spiritual umpire who can control your actions and reactions. Don't strikeout on your own. Don't be disqualified by not showing up for the game. Let Jesus call you safe at home plate (Heaven) one day!

Daily Prayer Focus: Praise God for Jesus as He serves as a Mediator on your behalf.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The follow-up of inquirers who come publicly and make decisions for Christ, write in for materials to grow in Christ, or who visit our website looking for help in following Christ. Pray for local believers, churches, parents, and friends who all will be used of God to nurture each and every one to maturity in Christ.

Sanctified Relaxing by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 20, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

Sanctified Relaxing by Keith Cook

"Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass." Psalms 35:5,7

Most of us want to do something all the time. Resting and relaxing are even frowned upon by some in our culture. While being lazy is a sin, the Bible does speak concerning the need for God directed resting. God wants all of us to learn how to rest in Him. This is what I call "sanctified relaxing." During these times you actually are renewing your strength and charging your spiritual batteries.

How To Rest

€ Lay it all down - Get honest and open up to Christ. You can not hide from Jesus. True rest will soon follow if you will admit you have needs you can not meet on your own. Why not invite the Creator of your life to instruct you how to live your life.

€ Close your eyes - Taking your eyes off the ways of the world and turning your back on sin will lead to a life of rest in Christ.

€ Enjoy the time - Enjoy trusting in Jesus and letting Him take care of your every need.

€ Dream - When you rest God will fill your mind and heart with dreams of what He has in store for you. The great thing about God directed dreams is that they are more like prophecy of things to come. Dreams should excite us about our future and inspire us to live on to see the completion of those dreams.

€ Awake Refreshed - True resting in Christ produces a refreshed and relaxed attitude and spirit. Being fully alive in Christ will lead to great victories over the Devil.

Signs You Are Not Resting - How Not To Rest

€ Worry - When you worry you allow the Devil and chance to dictate the pace of your life. You actually hand control of your life over to your main adversary. The Devil actually wants toharm you. His main goal is to bring God down in your eyes and bring you down in God's eyes. Do not allow worry to rob you of victory.

€ Fear - Fear is faith in the Devil, this is the ultimate expression of not trusting in Christ.

€ Deny - Denying that you have a need to rest and let go of your troubles is a real sign of spiritual decay and a humanistic mindset. Going it alone or avoiding looking at problems and life through God's eyes always leads to ruin.

€ Holding On - Holding on to the trials, problems, activities, or the day will keep you from resting. When you have done all you can do to stand, stand, Relax and trust the Lord to take care of the opportunities of your life.

Benefits of Resting

1. You Renew Your Strength

2. Reflecting On Challenges Produces Confidence

3. Remembering Who Is In Control Assures Success

Go ahead and take a "sanctified slumber party" today. Take a load off your spirit and put it on the Holy Spirit. Rest in knowing that Jesus is working tirelessly on your behalf.

Daily Prayer Focus: Ask God to search your heart today: Are you truly Resting in Him, or are there signs of worry, fear, denial, or holding on. Pray that God will enable you to release these areas and walk in step with His perfect plan.

On The Go Prayer Focus: All the local churches, committees, and leaders who will be working with On The Go Ministries and the Keith Cook Team in creative outreach efforts in the United States and around the world.

Called Out and Secure by Laurie McTier

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 19, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

News Event: Middle Tennessee Outreach-April 21-24-Nashville, Tennessee. Students will be reaching out to young people, children and adults in the Nashville area through multiple venues.

Called Out and Secure by Laurie McTier

"I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house." Isaiah 42:6,7

As Christians, God has given to each of us the command of the Great Commission, to share His love and truths with those who we come in contact with. The Bible says in Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Every man is in need of a Savior; our sin debt has been paid in full. The price of eternal freedom has been covered, all we must do is place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ and believe in Him so that we might know Him and spend eternity with Him in Heaven.

During my quiet time God showed me the following truths out of Isaiah 42:6,7.

1) God has called each of us to live holy, pure lives, beyond reproach.

2) God is omnipresent. He has called us, and is also with us every step of the way as we are obedient to His will and His command.

3) God wants to give us a covenant, a promise, and a burden for those to whom we must minister. He has called us to be a Light in the darkness, we must let His love flow through us.

4) God wants us to be active in the fight for freedom. God wants to give us a heart of compassion for those who are in bondage to sin and darkness. We must stand in the gap and seek opportunities to share His love and His truths which alone can yield eternal light and freedom to those in bondage.

God asks not for our abilities, but our availability to carry out His tasks. God can use each of us to impact this world for Him, one individual at a time.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that God will give you a renewed burden to be active in the fight for freedom from sin and bondage!

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go¹s World Outreach Center (WOC). This is our main office and training facility. Pray for God to protect the building, guard the mechanical and structural aspects of the facility, and use the facility for maximum eternal benefits.

Living On The Edge Of Eternity by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 18, 2010

Living On The Edge Of Eternity by Keith Cook

"Whoever speaks, let him speak as it were the utterances of God. Whoever serves let him do so by the strength that God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." 1 Peter 4:11

As you think about this passage, you must remember that these scriptures were written by Peter hundreds of years ago. He had a message from God, a fresh word for his generation. I believe that every generation needs men and women who live their lives as if they are living on the edge of eternity. They are men and women of passion - real champions for God! They boldly share God's message of salvation as if today was their last day on this earth.

I have come to the following conclusions about those who are living on the edge of eternity. Every person that I have met who has an "on the edge" mentality has, to a varying degree, most of the following spiritual and motivational attributes.

1. Those living on the edge of eternity know the lessons of past history and have learned from them.

2. They also demonstrate the life-changing power of God to their present culture.

3. When they face the future they do so with hope and expectation.

4. Their focus in life is to have a clear and urgent message to share in their daily lives.

5. Those living on the edge of eternity are galvanized by the ever-present supernatural power of the Holy Spirit.

6. Their attitude is permeated with the "mind of Christ" and they know what God wants them to do because they are communicating with Him in a regular time of personal Bible study and prayer.

7. Most importantly, those living on the edge of eternity are proactive in their service to God's kingdom. (Proactive is defined as "acting in advance to deal with an expected difficulty". Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

Instead of reacting to circumstances, public opinion, or crisis, these men and women deliberately choose to act on what Jesus told them to do in their quiet time. Their quiet time with the Lord empowers them to act with purpose and confidence.

Decide today to "live life on the edge"!

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that God will empower your quiet time with Him and will enable you to respond obediently with purpose and confidence.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The 30 Minute Radio & Podcast Program "On The Go with Keith Cook". This is a weekly program airing over the internet, short wave, and radio stations. God Will Give You the Desires of Your Heart by Dr. Ken Mattox, DDS

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 17, 2010

God Will Give You the Desires of Your Heart by Dr. Ken Mattox, DDS

"May He grant you according to your heart's desire, and fulfill all your purpose. We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions." Psalm 20:4,5

My wife Bettye and I had the privilege of serving in Zimbabwe on several occasions as we treated patients with dental needs at the hospital in Sanyati. On our last visit, we had the opportunity to renew acquaintances with our dear friends Gene and Jean Phillips. They have served for over 42 years as missionaries, and we just love to hear testimonies of how God has graciously blessed them and provided for their ministry over the years.

Today I want to share with you one of their stories from the field. In their first years of ministry, they served in an area that was well irrigated, and God blessed them with many flowers, a garden, and fruit trees. It brought joy to their heart to be blessed with some luxuries that they treasured back home!

Soon, they were asked to go to a more remote arid (dry) area to serve. Jean knew that the possibility of having a garden, flowers, or even a fruit tree would be very difficult in this area. Although this caused her sadness, she knew that they must go. One day in her quiet time, God brought her to Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."

Jean began to pray that God would give her the desires of her heart, or else, take the desires away. The first week after the Phillips' moved to their new area of ministry, a volunteer team from Louisiana came to the area. God sent them a team of drillers, and they were drilling water wells for people just above them. The Phillips' not only got water, they began to receive water from an artesian well. God blessed them with a steady stream of water flowing through their yard only a few feet from where they wanted their garden. Gene dug a small ditch, and Jean had all the water she could have ever wanted. God blessed them with a beautiful garden, and within nine months, they began to get fruit from a fruit tree they had planted.

Remain faithful to the Lord today. Give thanks to God and make your petitions known to Him. Let Him know the desires of your heart, and as you faithfully serve Him, He will shower you with His blessings.

Daily Prayer Focus: Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go's Outreach Training Schools (OTS). In our OTS, young people and adults are trained to go to the next level in their service to God. Pray for On The Go as we train believers to make a difference in their generation.

Being Alone by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 16, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

Being Alone by Keith Cook

Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers. 1 Samuel 12:7

Recently, I had a really strange weekend. I was all alone. It is really quite hard to suddenly find yourself alone when you are use to having people all in your life. Usually I have all kinds of people and things in my life - all kinds of activity. But not so that weekend.

Joan, my wife, was visiting family miles away. My son, Keith and his wife Megan, were away ministering in a local church revival on the Gulf Coast. My pastor, who I usually connect with on the weekend, was away. My local friends all had plans for the weekend. All my staff were out ministering all over the world and I was home alone. Friends from out of town did stop in earlier in the week to visit for one night but they now had moved on down the road. To make things even worse - it was cloudy and raining outside.

I had tried to fill my life with activity. I had plenty of places I could go eat at or shop or look at. But they all had no appeal.

I had rented several movies I had been wanting to see, that my wife would not want to see, but they some how seem uninteresting.

I had turned on my internet buddy list and internet phone service but no one was chatting or calling.

Every dish was clean, all the laundry was in the basket, the normal manly clutter was out of sight. Nothing left to do - nothing! I mean nothing!

My house was suddenly very quiet and very lonely.

Does this sound like something you have ever been through?

While my predicament sounds dire it was not really life threatening. It was not very serious but it was very emotional. My wife, son, friends, co-workers, peers, are all great and will be back in my world very soon. This is not a real problem. I am just spoiled with a wonderful life that is filled with wonderful people, activities, and blessings from God.

Many people live their lives in a kind of permanent aloneness. They never get beyond being just with themselves.

The Bible tells us, if we have a relationship in Christ, that we are never really alone. We have the presence of Christ in our life at all times. Isaiah 41:10 says, "Fear you not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness."

The Bible actually admonishes us to "be still and know that I am God." Psalms 46:10

Here are some insight about being alone.

1. Being temporarily alone is not a bad thing. You will survive. Use the time to reflect, catch up, clean up, relax, enjoy.

2. Take time to actually plan to get alone for a time or season. I am not talking about great amounts of time - simply - take the time, make the time, to get alone for some quality time of reflection and meditation on what God is doing in your life and what He may want to be doing in the future. This is something you may want to do on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis.

3. Plan a daily time to get alone with God. During this time you need to pray, read the Word (Bible), and have some time to reflect and wait on God to speak to your mind and heart.

4. If you have been through a crisis or suffered a loss due to death make sure you are allowing God, your church, your friends and family to minister to you.

5. If you do not have family, friends, or a church home now would be a great time to seek out a local church to help you in your time of need. We all need support and encouragement and the local church is a great - best - place to start.

6. If you do not know the Lord - now is a good time to come to Him. He loves you and will help you - not just through this situation - but with your whole life.

7. Do not retreat into perpetual aloneness. Allow time during times of grief and sorrow - but also allow Christ to heal your heart and mind. Seek Christian professional help if you do not seem to be handling your grief and situations in a way that you know is healthy and right.

So being alone is not really a bad thing. It may be boring. It may be unusual and seldom experienced but Christ can speak and lead even in times of aloneness.

You can probably tell what God has called me to do during my time alone - away for all my normal activity. He has led me to write this devotion! I hope it has been time well spent. I certainly do not feel all alone any more. I feel like you have joined me in this very moment. May God bless you as you live on for Christ. Never alone - always - in Christ.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that God will give you time this week to literally get alone with Him in prayer and Bible study. Pray that He will prepare your heart for the truths He will reveal to you!

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go¹s USA Outreach Effort. God has placed a United States effort on the heart and mind of the On The Go Team. Ambassadors or Terrorists by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 15, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

Ambassadors or Terrorists by Keith Cook

"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ..." 2 Corinthians 5:20

As you allow God to begin directing your thoughts, He will begin showing you people who need to hear about Jesus and giving you the words you need to say.

Recently, I have come to a rather profound conclusion. It has changed my life and the lives of many with whom I have shared this with. The conclusion is a simple understanding that the opposite of an ambassador is a terrorist! Some of us are acting like spiritual terrorists.

While we would never bomb a building or take another person's life, we justly believe that these actions are ungodly and horrible.

Yet, because we are not thinking like God wants us to think, and are not doing what God wants us to do - we are, in a spiritual sense, causing just as much spiritual damage as the ungodly crazed physical terrorist. We are sending people into a Christ-less eternity because we choose not to think or listen to God's leadings to share our faith with someone!

Actual terrorists cause people to die because of anger and demonic reasoning; some Christians, who are not serving as our Lord's ambassadors, allow people to die without a relationship with Christ. I do not want to be any form of a terrorist. I want to be an ambassador of Christ. What about you?

Live for Jesus this week. Be an ambassador for Jesus.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that you will be a faithful ambassador for Christ, directing people to Him, and not a terrorist by failing to share your faith.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go¹s Performing Arts Team. Pray for our team as we minister through drama, puppets, interpretive dance, and music. Our Performing Arts Teams are made up of volunteers and On The Go staffers who travel around the USA to local churches and events sharing the Good News.

Refuel Your Tank by Laurie McTier

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Corinthians 15:58

Recently as I was driving down the road, my car began to hesitate and it appeared to be out of gas. As I looked down at the fuel gauge, I noticed that according to the gauge, I still had a quarter of a tank of gas. I delayed going to the gas station, thinking I could get to my next destination and then refuel. Embarrassingly enough, I ran out of gas sitting in my director's driveway.

I learned the hard way that my car responds differently when it is cold outside. I have to put fuel in the tank more often, and the gage is not quite as accurate.

How does that apply to our Christian walk? God wants us to spend time with Him in His word and in prayer each and every day. Only then, can we refuel our tanks and experience the joy of the Lord and be prepared for the tests that come our way. God wants us to apply 1 Corinthians 15:58 in our daily walk with Him.

1) Beloved Brethren. We are loved. God is our Father and we are His Children. He desires an intimate relationship with each of us.

2) Steadfast. Set your focus. Do not allow detours in your walk with the Lord. Take heed to warnings that the Holy Spirit gives you, do not try to take short cuts.

3) Unmoveable. Stand your Ground. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. You will not always understand the trials and difficulties you experience, but stand your ground. Place your trust in God, He will never fail you.

4) Abound in the work of the Lord. Seek God's will and allow Him to direct your every step. God does not ask for your abilities, but for your availability.

5) Your Labor is not in Vain. The prayers of a righteous man are effective and productive. God will reward you for your faithful service. God's word promises that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart.

There is no substitute for spending time with God. We must have fuel in our tanks in order to be effective for Christ and glorify Him.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that you will be steadfast, unmovable, abounding in the work of the Lord, and that your labor will be rewarded.

Also, please pray for Keith Cook HOT Events. Pray for Keith as he ministers through Hands-On-Training opportunities. This is the mobile, active division of our Outreach Training Schools. Answered Prayers by Keith Cook

Answered Prayers by Keith Cook

"Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him." Matthew 6:8

I found something unique while searching the internet the other day. Take a look:

"Answered Prayers (via the internet)

I asked for strength - and God gave me difficulties to make me strong.

I asked for wisdom - and God gave me problems to learn to solve.

I asked for prosperity - and God gave me brain and brawn to work.

I asked for courage - and God gave me dangers to overcome.

I asked for love - and God gave me troubled people to help.

I asked for favours - and God gave me opportunities.

I Received nothing I wanted - I received everything I needed.

My prayers have been answered."

I was stuck by how true this often is. God knows our needs. Hears our prayers. Wants to bless and help us yet we often do not get what we think we need or have what we want to have out of life.

God is not Santa Claus with a big bag of toys for us - but He does have some wonderful gifts for each true believer to receive. These gifts are not necessarily the most culturally appreciated or noticed. God's most wonderful gift to us is in the area of peace and it comes every time we put all of our hopes, dreams, cares, and life into His omnipotent hands.

His will and answers to prayers are far greater than the cries from our lips or the pains that rise up out of our hearts. His answers are divine. He leadings are sure and secure. His provisions are eternal and just.

Thank God for answered prayers. He really does answer when we call. Sometimes we just forget He is the one in control!

May the love of Christ keep you in the center of God's answers to your prayers. Do not try to run from or avoid His unique replies to your requests. Trust Him and enjoy the blessings of obedience and the fellowship of relationship with God almighty.

Daily Prayer Focus: Praise God for answered prayers.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go Publications & Media Team. We are striving to saturate and minister to a contemporary culture and society through modern media. Pray For Individual Christians by Keith Cook

Pray For Individual Christians by Keith Cook

"...I urge that entreaties and prayers and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all men..." 1 Timothy 2:1

God wants us to pray for fellow believers. When we neglect to remember others and their needs, we rob them of a tremendous blessing and ourselves of joining in their reward and personal ministries. We need to co-labor with others in prayer and encouragement.

What should we pray for other believers? Why not consider praying the following for all the saints in training that you know:

Pray for their Personal Holiness - Pray that they can always forgive, forget wrongs done to them, constantly reflect on the mercy of God, and rejoice in the forgiveness that they have received. Personal Holiness is enhanced by being a person of
spiritual disciplines. Being a person of prayer, the Word, and reflection is very beneficial to one's personal growth in Christ.

Pray for their Personal Vision - Pray that they have divine wisdom, and supernatural courage to follow the Spirit's leading in their life and ministry. Each Christian has a call from God to join Him in service and compassion. Each is to follow the Lord's example of being blessed to be a blessing.

"I am sending you to them to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God" Acts 26:17,18

And also pray for their Personal Power - Power for service and commitment to doing God's will requires a daily emptying of self and filling of the Holy Spirit. It is God's power that the believer needs in order to do God's perfect will. Rely and trust in the Spirit for your strength.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray for Christian Leaders, your Pastoral Staff, Missionaries and Evangelists, Christian Friends, and yourself for Personal Holiness, Vision, and Power.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial needs of people hurting all over the United States and Worldwide. As God gives us opportunity in times of crisis we need to rapidly move to help.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

Finish What You Started by David Brandon

Finish What You Started by David Brandon

"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:" Philippians 1:6

It's easy for me to start something but difficult to see it through to the end. Today's verse has sustained me many times over the years. God has started a work in every Christian's life and He will finish what He started.

As Jesus hung on the cross He cried out, "It is finished." We're not to grow weary in well doing but to keep at the work and will of God for our lives. One day there will be rewards and whatever they may be, I look forward to laying them at the feet of Jesus. My desire to hear the words of Jesus, "Well done my good and faithful servant."

There are those around us who need good examples of someone who can start something good, but also see it through. You may be a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon, or a leader in your church. Stay at the good work Jesus started in you. No matter what you are going through, don't give up. Stay true to Him who never sleeps nor slumbers, He's always available, He will empower you, and equip you for the work He has begun in and through you.

Daily Prayer: Pray that God will enable you to finish well. Pray for discernment and sensitivity to areas in your life that you have started, but need to finish.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go's Neighborhood Outreach Program. In reality, very little is being done to reach people in many communities across the USA. On The Go is striving to train local Christians and help them develop programs that can systematically and permanently reach real needs in their neighborhoods.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

DARE TO SHARE by Keith Cook

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 10, 2010

Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

DARE TO SHARE by Keith Cook

"but the righteous are bold as a lion." Proverbs 28:1

You must be willing to Share the Love of Jesus with all you meet.

S - You must be SENSITIVE to the needs that are around you. When you are, you will have divine appointments from God.

H - Your HEART must be in the right place. Do you have a heart of love and compassion to help and reach the lost and needy?

A - You must be AVAILABLE to Christ to be used for service. By being available and adaptable to the needs of others, the Holy Spirit will use you to do great things for the Kingdom of God.

R - You must always RELY ON THE HOLY SPIRIT in every area of your life. When you are relying and trusting God you will be able to relax, defeat your fears, and really launch out into the deep waters of real ministry.

E - And finally, if you are going to really share with others, your ministry must have an EVANGELISTIC EXPRESSION. In other words you will share the Gospel and you will call for a decision for Christ. As you go for Christ you must be confident and humble. If you share the truths of Christ you will see the hand of God move. If you do your part God will always be there!

Dare to share your faith this week.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray for a greater sensitivity to the needs of those around you. Pray for Divine Appointments and the opportunity to Share the Love of Christ.

On The Go Prayer Focus: On The Go's GoKids Clubs. The focus of GoKids Clubs is to present a clear Gospel message to young children in our festivals, missions, and local neighborhoods. Pray for On The Go as we minister to boys and girls and share with them the love of Jesus Christ.

Thank you for taking the time to pray for this important division of On The Go Ministries. For more information on any our ministries here at On The Go, you may send your questions to info@onthego.org.

Strange But True by Laurie McTier

Strange But True by Laurie McTier

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good." Psalms 14:1

In the sixteenth century, some countries celebrated the start of their new year on April 1st. In 1562, Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar where the New Year fell on January 1st. In those days, technology was not as advanced as it is today, so news traveled very slowly. Many continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1st. The individuals who had heard the news played pranks or tricks on those who had not heard and called them "April Fools".

Biblically speaking, the only real fool in today's society is the individual who does not let his or her life count for God. The wise man will receive his reward as he has sought to honor God with his life and has endeavored to tell others about Him. The fool is the man who has chosen to deny God or has become disobedient to His commandments.

We are God's Ambassadors. He wants us to allow our life to count for Him, to make an impact in our society. He has given to us the charge of the Great Commission so that we will tell others of His love and sacrifice that they may have eternal life. May the Great Commission not become the Great Omission in our life.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray for wisdom as you seek to allow your life to count for God.

On The Go Prayer Focus: The "On The Go Daily² 2 Minute Radio & Podcast Program. This is a daily program airing across the United States, and World via the internet and radio stations. ³On The Go Daily² is used to encourage, challenge, and motivate Christians in their daily walk. The Progression of Desire

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 8, 2010
Brought to you each day by
Keith Cook Evangelistic Association / On The Go

The Progression of Desire

³What is the source of quarrels & conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust & do not have; so you commit murder. And you are envious & cannot obtain; so you fight & quarrel.² James 4:1-2

Using God as an excuse for a fight is unwise. The Jewish Christians had frequent wars with the Romans. They were a very quarrelsome, divided people. They even fought amongst themselves. Why are there fights & conflicts? I believe the Word of God tells us it is due to our ³worldly desires for pleasure².

That¹s not unlike the Christians of today, is it? Even in today¹s Christian marriages we even see ladies who are not content, so they nag their husbands to get what they want or men who buy big ticket items trying to fulfill discontentment.

Here is the progression of desire:

1. Want something

2. Begin to think about it.

3. Dominates our thoughts & we involuntarily think about it all the time.

4. Dream about it.

5. Begin to imagine having it no matter the cost.

6. Do whatever it takes to obtain it.

Some desires may be perfectly legitimate, ie. health, friendship, family, job, home. The problem comes when desires can¹t be obtained, then temptation comes and can lead us to sin!! Then, we have been drawn away from God by our desires.

When we desire something that we cannot obtain, we can become ³discontent² with what we have. Ruth Bell Graham wrote this prayer that could be yours today:

³Teach me contentment, Lord, what¹er my lot, keeping my eyes on You in trust. Knowing your love is true, your way is just.

Teach discontentment, Lord, with what I am; daily striving, growing daily nearer, finding you are daily closer, dearer.

Contented, Lord, yet discontented make me, both together working, blending all in your glory ending.²

God's Power and Love at Work in Our Midst by Dr. Ken Mattox, DDS

On The Go Daily Devotion for APRIL 7, 2010

God's Power and Love at Work in Our Midst by Dr. Ken Mattox, DDS

"Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up..." James 5:14, 15

One morning in Haiti I had the opportunity to tell the patients in our dental clinic how God created us and loves each and every one of us. I shared with them that we are all sinners, and have come short of God's glory. The biggest battle of our lives is the one raging within each one of us between God and the devil for possession of our souls.

God wants us in Heaven, but the devil wants us in Hell. We are forced to make a choice between the two. As I shared, I told them how Jesus, the Son of God, died in our place on the cross to pay the debt we could not pay. I invited each of them to ask Jesus to come into their lives and become their Lord and Savior before the sun set that day.

A few minutes later, I was standing on the front porch of the missionary residence watching the steady stream of patients coming down the long winding lane. I looked up and saw in the distance a scene that appeared to be straight out of the Bible. Four men were carrying a bed on their shoulders, upon which a woman with cancer lay. I resolved right there that we would treat this patient exactly as the Bible commands in James 5:14,15.

I asked several of the missionaries and dental and medical staff to join me in ministering to the woman who was obviously in great need. Someone brought me some cooking oil from the kitchen, and we placed some oil on her forehead and knelt down beside her. We prayed as fervently as we knew how for her healing.

I wish I could say she rose up immediately, took up her bed and walked, but that did not happen. God's power to heal was not demonstrated in our presence that morning, but I believe with all my heart, that His power to love was portrayed by her four friends who carried her to the clinic, and each of us who prayed for her.

(This devotion was taken as an excerpt with permission from Dr. Mattox's book entitled "A Light in the Darkness". This book contains scripture references that have impacted Dr. Mattox's life and illustrations from some of experiences on the mission field.
