My Sheep Hear My Voice by Keith Cook

³My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.² John 10:27 (NAS)

Recently I was on an outreach project in Haiti. We were having a Christian Festival right in the middle of a city of over two million people. It was a massive effort. Over sixty churches were partnering with us locally and ten international ministries were assisting in the effort.

We tried to go everywhere. We went to schools and shared the message of Jesus with students who may not know Christ. We visited orphanages to share with children who had had heartache after heartache about the joy of Jesus Christ. We made our way into areas that had been ravaged by storms, flooding, and natural disasters. The team took thousands of meals to help in any way we could.

As we were traveling around the city in an open air transport there was noise all around us. Horns honking, motorcycles revving, people shouting, along with the normal hustle and bustle of open air markets, street vendors, and city life. Right in the middle of all this noise I was just sitting in the back of our vehicle riding along with our team. I did not have a care in the world. I was happy and life was good.

All of the sudden one of my team members, Josh, from across the vehicle shouted to me, "Keith, you need to answer your phone it has been ringing for a while now."

In amazement and disbelief I looked down at my cell phone and sure enough I had missed several calls and it was actually ringing right then. I quickly answered the call and upon completion asked him how he could hear the ring in all the noise. He said, "I just seem to be able to hear almost any frequency of sound better than most people." I agreed that he must have "Superman" ears!

That got me thinking about hearing the voice of God. The Bible says His sheep will hear His voice and respond to His instructions. While many people go idly through life listening to the sound of their own drum, the believer is listening to another voice. Listening for another sound - the sound of their master.

What is Jesus calling out to you right now? What is He desiring for you to do? Make sure you are listening. You may not be called to work in Haiti or travel to another location for Christ. He may be calling you to serve where He has placed you: in your community, in your church, in your family and job.

He promises, if you are His sheep (spiritual term for follower or true believer in Christ) that you will hear His voice. He is definitely calling out today - Listen - Hear - Obey!

Daily Prayer Focus: Speak Lord, for thy Servant is listening.

On The Go Prayer Focus: This Saturday, December 19, as part of our GoCare division, we will be distributing toys, Christmas gifts, and much more to those in need in Inner City Nashville. We will be having a Holiday Festival with a live nativity, fun, food, and fellowship. Pray for this outreach event that God will continue to provide the necessary items to make this a success, and many volunteers to help reach out to those in need.
