Mercy Came Running By Laurie McTier

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. Luke 10:33,34

Recently I studied about the Good Samaritan in my quiet time. The more that I read about the Good Samaritan, the more of the nature of Christ I saw in His life. I began to make application to my own life through my quiet time. I began to ask myself the following three questions.

What is it that motivates you to serve and minister to others?

Is it guilt, a sense of duty and obligation, wanting to do good works, or is it simply a competition with other Christians? The Bible says that our one motivating factor should be the Love of Christ. (1 Corinthians 13:7,8) Our ministry should be based on the Love of Christ. Only then can our ministry be true, genuine, and fruitful.

What is your Limit in your service to Christ?

How far are you willing to go for the Master? Are Christians ever allowed to say "Enough, I'm through?" If God truly is Lord of all then there should be no limit to our service. We are never to quit or say "Enough."

Are you hiding certain areas of your life from Him?

As a young person I often sang the hymn, "I have decided to follow Jesus, No turning back. "There is great truth to this song when sung from the heart. Give God everything you have, allow Him to truly be Lord of all."

God wants you to be sold out to the calling He has placed upon your life.

Daily Prayer Focus: Pray that your motivation for Christian service will be pure and from a heart of love for those to whom you ministering.
